Masses this week:
(Morning Prayer 9am)
Sat: 5pm Daventry
Sun: 9am Yelvertoft
Confessions: Saturdays at 4.30pm
I was down at the dump the other day, getting rid of some rubbish, when I saw a man putting out cans of paint. He said that he was not going to do the decorating, regardless of what his wife said.
It’s amazing that we have this compulsion to ‘do it ourselves’ – encouraged by all the d-i-y stores. Every bank holiday they spend thousands making us feel guilty if we don’t spend some time with a paint brush or screw-driver in our hands.
There is satisfaction in a well done job; but for me, I find less satisfaction in a botched affair that I can just about cope with. – To say nothing of clearing up the mess that always seems to happen when I do things in the house.
For most of us we have our job of work. – Anything we do around the house is extra: extra work. Let’s think of it like that, and use the week-ends and the bank holidays to enjoy our families. – And so in Church today let us give God credit for his work, which allows us to do – it – ourselves for the other six days of the week.
NEXT WEDNESDAY 15th AUG
is a Holy Day of Obligation, being the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Masses will be at 9.30am & 7.30pm.
ADOREMUS EUCHARISTIC CONGRESS
This is taking place at Liverpool Echo Arena on Sat 8th Sept involving delegates from all Dioceses. Adoremus is the first time in modern history that the Church in England & Wales has gathered for a National Congress on the scale envisaged. If you would like to know more, please see notice in the porch.
SOLEMNITY OF ST AUGUSTINE
This year we transfer the solemnity of St Augustine (28th August) to the weekend of 25th/26th August so that we can celebrate one of our parish patrons together. The readings of the Mass differ from those of the 21st Sunday in Ordinary Time in the Mass books. On Sunday 26th, we invite you to bring cake to share with our regular parish coffee/teas in the hall after the 10.30 a.m. Mass.
Please consider joining the 400 Club and be in with a chance of winning some cash! Joy and friends will be in the hall after the 10.30am Mass. If you attend the 5pm Mass, you can still join, – just speak to Fr James. Cost is 25p per number per week.
PARISH FACEBOOK GROUP
If you use Facebook, please join our parish Facebook group: Our Lady of Charity & St Augustine Daventry, a good way to catch up on parish activities.
