The Society of St. Vincent de Paul

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul has a conference in this parish and works to alleviate suffering and loneliness for anyone within the parish, irrespective of race, colour or creed. Further information can be obtained from Isabel Prat (01788) 890766

Guild of St Stephen

St. Augustine’s has a long and happy tradition of always having a good group of servers, both boys and girls, for serving at Mass. If you would like more information about becoming an Altar Server, please contact Paul Street via the church or Tel. (01788) 822783.

Justice and Peace

This is a group formed to work in a practical way to raise awareness of justice and peace issues both at home and abroad. We are part of Northampton Diocese Justice & Peace Group. Everyone is welcome to join us regularly or for a specific project. For further information please contact Maggie Nichols (01327) 340732.

Children’s Liturgy

Children’s Liturgy is for children over three years of age who have not made their First Holy Communion. Children are supervised so that parents can remain in the church and participate in the Mass. If parents must go out, they should support the group leaders. For infants and toddlers, they are not ready to participate in the Liturgy Group and so should remain in the church. If they are restless, the Damien chapel is open and, as well as having a selection of children’s books and soft toys, it is still possible to hear the Mass through the loud speaker system.  For further details please contact Rachel Rowe (01327) 314462

Youth Group

Our Catholic Sacred Heart youth group meets on the last Sunday of every month at 6pm in St Augustine’s Hall. You are very welcome to come along to find out more about us and meet other young people or, if you would prefer to speak to someone first, feel free to contact Alison on 07749 968380. Don’t be shy – come and meet us!!

Starting in November, we will be running YOUTH ALPHA & CONFIRMATION sessions. Alpha is a series of sessions exploring the basics of our Christian Faith. It is a safe place where young people can seek answers and explore big questions such as Life: Is this it? It is a 12 week course that will also include a retreat weekend where we explore’ Who is the Holy Spirit?’

Our youth Alpha course will start on 5th November; Confirmation candidates should also attend. (The age range is 12 -18, the age for the Sacrament of Confirmation.) All sessions will be from 6-8pm in the hall and will be weekly.

Choir

The choir meets regularly on Tuesdays at 8pm in the church, but we do have breaks at appropriate times during the year. If you would like to join the choir or find out more about it, please see Michael Hooson, who usually plays the organ at the Saturday evening Mass and every Sunday apart from the 3rd Sunday of the month, or telephone him on (01604) 592974.

RCIA

Each year there is an opportunity for anyone who is not a member of the Catholic Church to attend a series of talks and discussions on the main aspects of the faith. During the year several leaders cover topics such as the sacraments, the Mass, prayer and the teachings of the Church in moral matters. Times can often be arranged to suit individuals and some meetings take place at homes or in the church rooms at St. Augustine’s.

Please telephone Rev James Cassidy CRIC for further information on (01327) 300248. A preliminary meeting can be arranged to explain the process and commitment more fully.

SSCC Lay Community

What is it? Who are they?

It is for all of us who would welcome the friendship and support of a group who will meet regularly to pray and share more fully in the spirit and vision of the Community of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus & Mary. We try to help each other to live out what it means to be Christian: at home, at work, looking for work, retired, single or married … wherever and however we find ourselves. Do please ask for more details from Mike Curtis (01327) 876379 or Di Wilson (01327) 342349.

Churches Together in Daventry

St Augustine’s is part of a local Covenant with four other local Christian churches. We meet regularly to plan a series of events throughout the year to help Christians in our area to pray, reflect and witness together. The highlight of the year is the Good Friday Walk of Witness. Please contact Fr James for more details.

Cleaning

Oh no, not cleaning! … but before you disappear behind your dish mops – you only have to spare a couple of hours and join our team on a rota. The more people we have, the fewer times per year you have to do it! If you could spare the time, please contact the presbytery (01327) 300248.

Flowers

In St. Augustine’s we love our flowers. So if you have a flair for flower decoration or are any good with a watering can and would like to join our merry band, please contact Margaret (01327) 705184 or Julia (01327) 703005.

We have recently set up several other Parish Groups to help with the organisation of the parish:

  • Pastoral Group
  • Finance Group
  • Fund Raising Group
  • Welcome & Outreach Group

For further details of these groups please contact the Presbytery on (01327) 300248
