Confessions: Before Mass
The church is a small wooden building built in the 50s on land donated by a parishioner. It survived the recent floods of 1999. The congregation represents all ages and is drawn from 10 villages or more. Seating capacity is up to 75.
During the war, Yelvertoft Catholics attended services at Stanford Hall. From 1948 the Diocesan Travelling Missioner administered sacraments and in 1954 Mass was said monthly. Numbers increased and a passing comment that a hut would be useful led Mr Townsend to reply that if someone provided a hut, he would provide the land. £800 was raised, the wooden panels were built, decorated and painted and the church was furnished. The communion rails came from Stanford Hall and later, a parishioner purchased the benches after a “win at the races”!
